Is the REAL Messenger App Right For You?

Let’s get real about the REAL Messenger app for real estate agents. Many agents are tired of large real estate platforms and want more control over their listings, and the free REAL Messenger app is here to help. Let’s see what it can do for you and your real estate business.

Background

Thomas Ma, founder and CEO of REAL, and Fredrik Eklund, co-founder of Eklund-Gomes Team at Douglas Elliman, built this platform exclusively for the real estate industry. Not only can agents promote their listings, but they can share their specialties and sales history and even chat within the app. The REAL app also encourages connections with home buyers and sellers. These opportunities in the REAL app allow agents to regain control of their real estate business.

The REAL app is rated 3.8 out of 5 in the Apple Store, 4.5 in Google Play

Valuable Home Listing Information

Anyone can download the REAL Messenger app, which makes it possible for consumers to see your listings, ask questions, and choose a real estate agent. Each listing displays the primary photo, pricing, MLS#, square footage, # of bedrooms & bathrooms, address, financial terms, and how many days the listing has been in the app. Three buttons allow users to like, comment, and share. There is also a “follow” button at the top of each listing, where users can choose to follow you and your listings. Users must agree to the terms and conditions and register their phone number if they want to comment on a listing or follow an agent.

Search Capabilities

Users can search by address, zip code, agent, or amenities using the search magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen. One customer who reviewed the app said that you could only search by one amenity, and I found that to be true. For example, when searching for “kitchens,” you may only get a few kitchen photos, and the rest are of other rooms. It appears that AI might need some tweaking when it comes to recognizing specific amenities. There are also very few listings in the app because it is new. At the time of the article, the only listings in the app were from larger states (ex. CA, TX, NY, FL). In the upcoming months, I imagine we’ll be able to search a broader range of listings from across the country.

Pros and Cons: Per Customer Reviews

After reading through the online reviews, here are the pros and cons shared by REAL app users:

Pros:

  • Free!
  • Self-branding
  • Visually appealing
  • Inbound Marketing
  • Easily market yourself
  • Use to create a following
  • An excellent resource for new home buyers
  • Helpful in meeting other real estate agents
  • Use to engage with clients and potential clients
  • Great for anyone looking to find a real estate agent
  • Search for specific amenities (ex. only kitchen pics)
  • Listing ratings: value for money, quality of the home, and quality of location

Cons:

  • “What’s the purpose of the app?” 🤔 😀
  • You can only use only one filter at a time
  • A limited number of homes and states
  • Not user-friendly (no tutorial or user instructions)
  • Search returns unrelated results (ex. select bathroom pics and get a few plus unrelated pics)

Rest assured that some of the cons listed in the reviews will correct themselves. You can look forward to more listings will be added, and the search function will improve as engineers continually make updates. I think the app will become more user-friendly, too, possibly with some pop-up tips or a more generous display of instructions when the app first launches.

Personal Information and Location Tracking

The REAL app will track and collect personal information when you use the app. According to REAL’s privacy policy, tracking may include data you use to register, your profile and updates to it, your searches, posts, and communication within the app. If you link the REAL app to your Facebook account, they will have access to the personal information you’ve provided to that site. The app also tracks information about you from REAL’s third-party affiliates. The app will track your location and specific mobile data (ex. IP address, zip code). The app will also track GPS functionality, but you can disable this and location tracking if your mobile device allows it.

Conclusion

With all the changes happening in the housing market, this app may be just what you need to stand out and become a better real estate agent, especially if you’re a new agent. I recommend trying the REAL app for a year and seeing how it helps you grow your business. Let us know in the comments how you will use the REAL Messenger app and how you expect it to improve your business. I look forward to seeing your feedback!
