Why Bilingual Real Estate Agents Rock!

Do you speak more than one language? I studied German in high school and for a few semesters in college. When I say “Guten Tag” (Hello) or “Danke” (Thank You), people ask if I speak German (“Sprechen Sie Deutsch?”). My reply… “ein bisschen” (a little bit). I have forgotten most of the German I learned, like 90%. ☹️ Fortunately, I remembered this tip, which will come in handy if you ever visit Germany: don’t ask “where can I find a bathroom” as we do in America. Ask for the toilet, “Wo ist die Toilette,” or you’ll end up in a bathhouse. You don’t want to go to a bathhouse unless you want to take a bath.

So, why did I share my German-learning story? Because you could be engaging with more people and growing your sales funnel just by knowing another language.  Let me show you the way.

Imagine going to Germany to buy a home, and you hardly know the language. You try to communicate with a German real estate agent who speaks broken English. You don’t understand each other, so the likelihood of a real estate transaction is slim to none. How do you think it feels when someone can’t speak English but wants to buy a house in the U.S.? I can only imagine it would be a dreadful experience.

Serve more customers by discovering what languages are prominent in your area and start studying the language. Spanish? Mandarin? Did you know that 75% of online searches aren’t done in English? You should consider learning a second language used in your area and have a multi-language website to grow your customer database.

75% of online searches aren’t done in English.

There are a variety of options available to help you learn a second language, including the following:

English is the most popular online language used at 25.9%, Chinese at 19.4%, and then Spanish. - Statista

Learning a Chinese dialect or Spanish as a second language is favored, but it’s most important to find a second language that is spoken in your market. Try one of the language learning websites above to become proficient in a second language. Before you know it, you’ll be conversing in another language, and your audience of home buyers and sellers will grow exponentially. Your real estate leads will be impressed too.  Alles Gute!
